Q : What is rake

The Rake is the commission fee taken by a poker room. There are different types of rake depending on the format of poker game being played. During ring games the percentage rake is taken by the dealer and based on the money being in the pot. In a live casino, the dealer manually removes chips from the pot at each betting round. When playing online, the rake is taken automatically by the game client (software). The rake is generally capped at $3 on each pot when playing online. The second type of rake is commonly called the "juice". It is a fee that players pay in order to participate to a poker tournament. For instance, in a $100 + $10 buy-in tournament, $100 go to the prize pool which will be distributed amongst the winners and $10 is the juice which is paid to the organizers.

Q : What is rakeback

Now you know what rake is, it is easy to guess what rakeback is and why it is so important that you benefit from such an offer. The rakeback is merely easy money! The so called "rakeback" is the repayment to a player of a portion of the rake that he has been generated. Rakeback is generally offered by affiliates who give their players a portion of their commissions. Depending on the volume of your play, rakeback can reach up to several thousands dollars a month. As an affiliate, we negotiate for you the best rakeback rates within the industry.

Q : What is a sign-up bonus

A sign-up bonus is a cash bonus that is offered to you when you make your first deposit. The amount of this bonus generally depends on the room you sign-up to and on the amount of your deposit. Most of the time, you have to play to release your sign-up bonus: the points you earn by playing at the table allow you to release your cash bonus either partially or in one time. You will be able to see the various sign-up bonuses for each room in our list of offers

Q : What is a VIP program

Some poker rooms offer a VIP program in order to reward their loyal players. Generally, it is used by rooms which do not allow rakeback as a substitute to rakeback. There are several VIP levels depending on the number of points accumulated by players. Those points are earned by playing real money at the tables. For instance, at Pokerstars, the VIP levels are: BronzeStar, SilverStar, GoldStar and PlatinumStar. A VIP program can give you access to a VIP lounge, VIP store, tournaments or special offers such as cash bonuses. You will be able to find which rooms offer their players a VIP program in our offers list

Q : What is an affiliate

An affiliate is at the online industry what an agent is at the traditional one. More accurately, an affiliate is an independent marketer whose  mission is to bring customers to an online merchant which sells the final product. In return, this company gives this affiliate a commission. An affiliate can be either an individual, like a webmaster, or a company. In the online poker industry, affiliates operate mainly online through websites, or using various online marketing strategies such as mailing or PPC. Also, they may run offline promotion. Basically, a poker affiliate brings players to a poker room and get a rewarded from doing so. This commission can be in a form of a one-time payment or in a form of a percentage of the life-time players' revenue.

Q : How do I get my rakeback paid

Your rakeback is paid directly to your player account. If you have several accounts at different rooms with a rakeback offer, it is paid to each account respectively. This payment system allows you to have this money available as quick as possible.

Q : When do I get my rakeback paid

Q : How does PokerEthical work

PokerEthical earns commissions from the poker rooms. Every time you sign up in a new poker room, you choose the charity you will support in this room and half of the commissions earned thanks to you in this room will be reversed to your chosen charity. This process is totally free for you and works in rakeback rooms as well in non-rakeback rooms (in those latter, half of the fixed commission earned by PokerEthical once you activate your sign-up bonus will be reversed to your charity)

Q : What are Ethical money/points

What we call “ethical money” is the amount of funds your raise for your charities, which equal half of the commissions earned by PokerEthical thanks to your gaming. The “ethical points” determine your position in the ethical race. You earn one ethical point for every two dollars of ethical money you generate.

Q : How can I check the amount I raised for my charities

In your personal space you can find the details of your ethical points and ethical money you generated for your supported charities.

Q : Why associate poker and charities

PokerEthical is far from being the first poker charity project. Poker players have always shown they were willing to help people in the need and support organisations which try to make a difference. There are very successful charity tournaments organised all across the world and online; and poker pros are the first ones to show the good example. PokerEthical is however the very first charity affiliate initiative in online poker. Poker affiliates generate significant amounts of commissions and PokerEthical only proves that an online charity business model is viable: if half of our revenues is sufficient to sustain a high quality website, why not giving the other half to those who really need it?

Q : What is the Ethical rating

You can find the rooms’ ethical rating in the room review section. With this rating, we assessed the rooms’ contribution and support to PokerEthical. By contribution, we mean their financial offers and the rate of their commissions but also their willingness to support Ethical projects. The Ethical rating is defined with stars. The most supportive rooms can earn up to five Ethical stars.

Charity

Q : How does PokerEthical pay charities

At the end of each month, PokerEthical sends the total amount collected for each charity during the past month.

Q : How can I be sure charities are getting paid

In the Ethical menu, donation certificates received from charities are posted in the “transparency” section each month.

Q : How did PokerEthical choose its charities

An important matter for us is transparency. As we respect our players, we want to assure we are sending our donations to the most transparent charities in terms of financials and activity. This is why all the charities we chose to support follow well-defined accountability charters and/or have been reviewed successfully by charity rating foundations (please see the transparency section in the ethical menu). Then, of course, charities we chose have shown outstanding results in their history and need public support to pursue their work.

Q : Can I choose my charity

Of course! When you register to a new poker room, the choice of your charity is one of the steps in the registration process. You are totally free to chose the same charity in all your poker rooms or to support a different one each time.
